The 15 recommendations by the Public Accounts Committee Inquiry into the Procurement and delivery of medical drugs and consumables for the National Department of Health in 2019 have not been fully implemented. Another joint inquiry by the PAC and the Public Sector Reform & Service Delivery Committee heard much of the recommendations like the use of courier Post PNG to deliver drugs and medical supplies are still going through the tender process. The Inquiry also heard that the set up of a Pharmaceutical board was still in progress, together with a proper laboratory set up for independent drug testing, tracking system of supplies and the doing away of the push system and only using the pull system for drug procurement.
In a pull system - one places orders for long term use while a push system is where you order as and when needed. PAC Chairman and Northern Governor Gary Juffa reminded Health Secretary Dr. Osborne Liko and his team to start working on implementing these recommendations.
