In a historic milestone for the country, a Papua New Guinean has opened a first-ever nationally owned retail pharmacy - Tali's Pharmacy located at the Unity Mall, in Port Moresby. Pharmacist Myrtle Piokole, who has been in private practice for over thirteen years saw the need and tapped into the space with her business partner - Dr. Sarah Kiniafa. Mrs. Piokole says, venturing into this space has not been easy but with great support from her husband, family and partner - they've made it through: The retail pharmacy which will be competing with other big-name pharmacies is offering usual pharmaceutical services as well as retail. Mrs. Piokole says the requirements for venturing into a pharmacy set-up are very stringent such as the need for a pharmacist license and approval from the Pharmacy board among others. Business partner, Dr. Sarah Kiniafa explains that their services similar to the others will include an in-station with a nurse for free general checks and referrals.
Tali's pharmacy which presently gets its products from City Pharmacy to resell is working on its procurement arm for larger medical procurements. It has sister companies Blue Sky medical and dental services.
