Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships provide training in  priority areas identified by the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Australia, delivered through selected partner institutions in Papua New Guinea. Nursing scholars and graduates contribute to quality health outcomes across PNG including in rural and remote communities.

• Lutheran School of Nursing

Eligibility requirements
You must meet the following requirements to be
considered for a scholarship.

• • be a non-school leaver (i.e. not be applying directly after completing secondary school)
• • be a citizen of PNG and residing in PNG at the time ofapplication
• • not have been convicted of a criminaloffence
• • not have been terminated from a previous Australia Awards scholarship for misconduct.
• • completed Grade 12 with a minimum GPA 2.75 and a minimum grade B in Biology and Chemistry and  Language &Literature and C in Advance Math or A in General Math
• • OR matriculation upgrade (DODL/FODE) minimum GPA 3.0 and minimum subject grades as above
• • meet the additional conditions of entry  for the institution of your choice

(Note: UPNG CTCS six-month upgrade is not accepted
by either School of Nursing)

​Roslyn John is one of 13 Community Health Workers (CHW) in Hela who was fortunate enough to receive training in midwifery, obstetrics and gynaecology skills through the Hela Provincial Health Authority health worker training program. The training included advanced midwifery, maternity care and antenatal care skills to assist mothers and babies in the rural health centre.
“Now I am able to do the work that previously would require a qualified midwife or doctor when a mother is having complications during labour, but in consultation with a specialist” says Roslyn who has been working for over 20 years at the Kopiago Health Centre.
