Roslyn John is one of 13 Community Health Workers (CHW) in Hela who was fortunate enough to receive training in midwifery, obstetrics and gynaecology skills through the Hela Provincial Health Authority health worker training program. The training included advanced midwifery, maternity care and antenatal care skills to assist mothers and babies in the rural health centre. “Now I am able to do the work that previously would require a qualified midwife or doctor when a mother is having complications during labour, but in consultation with a specialist” says Roslyn who has been working for over 20 years at the Kopiago Health Centre. |
