The World Health organization (WHO) is committed to improving health services and healthcare as the appointment of Dr Lino Tom looks promising for the health sector according to the WHO Country Representative Dr.Sevil Huseynova. Huseynova said that Papua New Guinea is a WHO's Member State in the Western Pacific Region and WHO will continue to prioritize the health agenda of the country. She was speaking during the official Handover-Takeover ceremony of Wabag Open MP Dr Lino Tom as newly appointed Health Minister over his predecessor Jelta Wong in Port Moresby last week. Huseynova, in officially welcoming Minister Lino, admitted that health was not the easiest job in any country but judging from Dr Lino Tom's achievements in the marine and fisheries sector which he was formerly the Minister responsible, she trusted that he will continue the transformation that has begun in the health sector.
“I reconfirm our support, and remain ready to serve the health sector under your leadership as minister though the secretary, the Provicial Health Authority (PHA) CEO’s and all key stakeholders and partners in health”, said Dr. Huseynova. She is looking foward to working with the People's Party leader as the new Health Minister and officially welcome him to the WHO Regional Committee Members (RCM) meeting to be held in Manilla later in October.
