Getting into a legal fight with Pacific International Hospital like another expatriate female Doctor, Dr Joshita Amai, did (Google Dr Joshita) or getting wrongly dismissed and defamed was certainly not what Doctor Lina Saleh envisaged when she arrived, as a young, single, intelligent, fit and energetic, hard working Doctor with her Masters in Forensic Science obtained at an Australian University, to work in Papua New Guinea at Pacific International Hospital at the end of 2009 after being personally interviewed in Australia by Doctor Amyna Sultan.
“I just wanted to shape the relationship with her in a professional work
relationship and not any religious friendship”, Dr Lina said later of Doctor Amyna who is reportedly Mohammed Sultan’s wife ‘number 2 or 3’. However, according to information (emails) sighted the relationship with her then employer became far too personal and unprofessional.
Mohammed Sultan, described by Dr Lina as “the old Indian”, as a member of the Ismaili sect reportedly can marry 4 women if he chooses, and certainly considering that he is reportedly “a very wealthy man” can afford to do so.
It did not take long for Doctor Lina to find out the true character of Doctor Amyna. What type of woman charges her house keeper K60 for accidently breaking her vase and when the house keeper did not have the money to pay reportedly made her housekeeper work in PIH as a cleaner for 10 months unpaid? Who can believe it? Who can believe all the stories and allegations publicly made against PIH over the last few years?
Doctor Lina decided to resign from Pacific International Hospital for a number of reasons. However, Dr Amyna initially refused to accept her resignation – only to terminate her via email just before her 3 months’ notice of resignation was due to expire. See Part 1, 2 and 3.
The primary reason why Doctor Lina did not want to work any longer at Pacific International Hospital, appears to be because of the unprofessionalism and unethical behaviour she reportedly encountered or heard about - such as the stories of alleged sexual misconduct among staff members, however perhaps the biggest contributing factor which led to her departure was because of unwelcome attention she received from a married man.
“Her husband was really crazy about me and I rebuffed him as an animal,” Dr Lina confided. “But lately after the husband took me (somewhere) and had tried to approach me and I rebuffed him badly and had resigned, she (the wife) said to me, “I can destroy you and get you raped or killed in PNG and you are alone”.” Dr Lina, who initially “felt sorry” for the wife, said the wife’s “jealousy” of her “reached the stage she was colouring her hair like me, dressing like me and even doing gym like me”.
In another alleged case involving different people Dr Lina alleged, “His wife caught him in the bed with 2 PIH staff and (named) had told me this.”
“On the other hand (named) was caught in a sexual offence but still working,” …”whilst (named) had been caught in a sex offence in the hospital and (named) drank whiskey in his clinic”, Dr Lina also alleged.
Further information on these three Doctors is given herein:
The Doctor allegedly an alcoholic, according to Dr Lina, “used to sip it in front of everyone and all the time” and “kept it next to his desk in the drawer, just how we keep water at work.” Did you meet with him?” Dr Lina asked me after I asked her if she ever saw the Doctors hands shake – a visible sign of advanced alcoholism. “It is not his hand but even his speech is alcoholic. Give him a phone call and you will figure that you are with alcoholic”, Dr Lina replied.
Then there was the “scandal” involving Doctor (named) “who was caught by (identified) having sex in his clinic with a pretty, young (identified and named)”. “She used tell me that he used to buy her chocolate and wine samples from his trips to Australia”, Dr Lina said.
After the wife reportedly turned up in Port Moresby (‘came all the way from ………….) to fight with the other woman (named), Dr Lina said the wife “even came to PIH to attack (named) and (named) by then he paid (named) K60 to go off for the day.” When questioned further, Dr Lina advised, “I only know her first name and not sure about her marital status.”
That particular scandal involved a Papua New Guinean Doctor. The next one allegedly involved an expatriate Doctor. “He once received a case of 28 years old PNG case who had a massive abscess in her mouth that she couldn't sleep because of pain. He told her she needs Morphine injection but the vials at hospital are expired and he suggested she wait for him in car parking area as he will drive her to his house and will give her from his morphine stock!!! At his house he tried to harass her sexually which she rebuffed (“screamed loudly”) and did stupidly like me reported to (named). I was told this by (named) and (identified and named)”, Dr Lina further alleged.
According to information received last month from Dr Lina, PIH did not have only expired Morphine in stock, there is also an allegation that other “significant drugs” used to treat life threatening conditions were also kept at PIH. More on that later.
After the patient with the “massive abscess” reported the alleged incident to a Doctor (named) Dr Lina advised, “but immediately 1 day later we received inner memo stating her name and warning us that this patient is a morphine dependent crazy women attacking doctors....which never been the case.”
“I threw up and ever since he never talk to me”, Dr Lina said about the next incident which allegedly involved another Papua New Guinean Doctor (named) who according to Dr Lina was “caught heaps of times in the theatre harassing nurses”. This particular Doctor, according to Dr Lina, made her throw up after she reportedly witnessed a certain alleged incident during an examination performed on “a young girl” who Dr Lina said displayed “symptoms of appendicitis” - further details on which we cannot publicly report or elaborate on further. It is a matter best left for the court and or the Doctors conscience.
So what is the truth of all the allegations, all not yet publicly exposed? There is worse to come!
“It cannot be me and very random people and Dr Joshita and this women who is harassed are all liars”, Dr Lina said.
Incredibly, there is another alleged incident involving yet another different expatriate Doctor who allegedly ‘in the guise of administering treatment’ sexually assaulted an expatriate patient. A suit was filed last year on behalf of the alleged victim by a lawyer representing a prominent Port Moresby based law firm. The matter reportedly will come up soon on 7th of March 2014 for pre-trial directions. The expatriate Doctor accused of the assault was reportedly arrested and was released on bail, however whilst on bail the expatriate Doctor absconded by leaving PNG.
Great news, learned this afternoon, is that Dr Lina has instructed the BEST lawyer in Port Moresby Tony Waisi
to represent her. Thank you Tony Waisi.
