POPE Francis has donated personal protective equipment and other essential items related to the Covid-19 to the country’s Catholic Church Health Services. The donation from the global head of the church was handed over on behalf of Pope Francis by Father Jacek Pawel Pinocy, the Secretary of the Apostolic Nuncio of PNG in Port Moresby. A request was made to the Holy See in Rome for PPEs, battery-operated forehead thermometers and finger-pulse oximeters.
“The Holy Father is thinking of everyone all over the world. Though Rome is far, they immediately put together these gifts and sent them,” Father Jacek said. The items will be distributed to the 19 dioceses around the country to be given to health facilities in need of the items. Bishop Francis Meli of the church health services asked Fr Jacek to convey to Pope Francis the gratitude of the PNG people for the donation. “He is a great shepherd in terms of Catholic Church. “We also see how important to him the need to assist developing nations during this pandemic,” Bishop Francis said. Sister Jadwiga Faliszek thanked the Holy Father for the gesture saying the items would assist CCHS staff especially those serving in the rural and remote areas.
