Papua New Guiena PRIME Minister James Marape received his second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Port Moresby this afternoon as required. Prior to getting the jab, he held a media conference in which he said he had no side effects from the first dose that he received on March 30 and refuted claims that he was sick after that dose. "There is a lot of fake news out there,'' he said. "In the first dose, I had no side effects. I'm ready to be vaccinated with my second dose.'' The Prime Minister also encouraged people to be vaccinated.
The vaccine was initially made available to the health workers and other frontliners or essential workers. It is now extended to those aged 45 years old and above, and those with comorbidites. However, he said if anyone gets very sick because they have not got vaccinated they have themselves to blame because the government has made available the vaccine. The recommended dose of AstraZeneca vaccine is two and is supposed to boost one's immunity against severe forms of the coronavirus disease 2019 ( COVID-19).
