The PNG Government has made available initial funding of 10 million Kina to implement Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan.
The plan was developed by the National Department of Health to respond to the Novel Coronavirus which is spreading around the globe.
Relevant government agencies are working together in that emergency plan to prevent and contain the spread of the virus from entering the country.
Health Department has made a total submission of 45 Million Kina to the National Executive Council as a lead agency.
However, only 10 million Kina was made available as initial funding.
Treasury Ian Ling Stuckey made this known in Parliament last Friday.
The Treasure told Parliament, 10 Million Kina funding will be released first whilst awaiting the Department to finalise rest of the funding based on the 45 million Kina submission from the health department.
NBC News understands the Health Department has also used a 5- Million Kina from its internal funding on Coronavirus preventive works since a few weeks back.
The internal funds were mainly used on preventive work such as the set-up of the Coronavirus Help Desk at Jackson's International terminal, awareness and others.
