NURSES around the country were remembered yesterday by their colleagues in West New Britain as the annual International Nurses Day was celebrated worldwide. Deputy director of nursing services at the Kimbe Provincial Hospital Sr Scholly Baiwan told nurses that they had stood up to the challenge presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. “Fighting fear and stepping up to many roles during this pandemic has seen nurses working under pressure while guiding patients on their health recovery so they can go back to their loved ones,” she said. “The pandemic has also exposed the weakness of our healthcare system and the huge pressure nurses are working under.” Sr Baiwan, however, pointed out that the pandemic had also allowed the “candles to shine again on your incredible commitment and courage”.
