A NURSE and midwifery specialist Paul Baki made a life-saving decision to save a mother and her baby by crossing a fast-flowing river in the early hours of Tuesday morning. PNG St John Ambulance team was dispatched to the Hiritano Highway after receiving news of a woman who had gone into labour. “We were dispatched at 4am for an obstetrics case,”Baki said. “A mother had gone into labour and delivered her baby at a village along the Hiritano Highway in Central.” He said the team came across a fast flowing river at the end of the road.
He had to get to the other side to assist the mother. With the help of the locals in the area he managed to cross the river. Baki said thankfully, both patients (mother and baby) were okay. He attended to the mother, helped with the delivery of the placenta and did all required checks on both of them. “Due to the current of the river, a safe decision had to be made for the mother and baby to stay back with the family until the current slowed for both to be taken to the nearest health facility for immunization and further checks.” The National / PNG Health Watch Next : Swine Fever Situation In PNG's Jimi Unclear, Says Minister Comments are closed.
