A NON-GOVERNMENT organisation is training 50 health workers in Southern Highlands, Papua New Guinea to deal with the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and help rollout the vaccine programme. Touching The Untouchable (TTU) ran the four-day training on vaccines and vaccination in Mendi from last Tuesday to Friday. The training covered the different types of vaccines, how to provide helpful information and build confidence and the steps of doing positive awareness. The programme comes under TTU’s “Sleeves up” campaign and training of the health workers. TTU upper Highlands coordinator Freddy Narowen said the training involved staff from 25 health facilities in the province.
He said health workers needed to be trained before going out to communities and districts to carry out vaccinations. Narowen said the Covid-19 had claimed many lives in the country and vaccination was the best way to protect the population. He said the training was sponsored by the World Bank, United Nations Children’s Fund and the Health Department in order improve vaccination in Papua New Guinea.
