The National Agricultural Research Institute, NARI, found a way to reduce the cost of chicken feed.
NARI is substituting imported feed grains with locally available alternatives such as kaukau, cassava, taro and banana.
Livestock feed cost have escalated due to imported ingredients.
NARI’s Livestock Research and Development Coordinator, Workneh Ayalew said, pilot trials were done and farmers were satisfied with the outcome.
Some farmers even continued using the NARI’s developed chicken feeds in various provinces.
Feeds for pigs and fish have also been made using local ingredients.
