Mendi Provincial hospital gets funding
MENDI Provincial Hospital board chairman Alex Awesa has commended the Southern Highlands Provincial Government for allocating the hospital K3 million in the 2015 provincial budget.
Mr Awesa said the funding by the provincial government was timely when the province prepares to set up its provincial health authority.
He said hospitals like the five star Mendi hospital need maintenance work to maintain their status and the funding would assist the hospital to do necessary renovations and maintenance of facilities.
He said Governor William Powi’s vision to help improve the ailing health facilities in the province must be commended.
He said the K8 million in the this year’s funding and another K8 million funding in the 2015 budget to help improve the health facilities is in the right direction as it affects the lives of the people.
"I commend Governor Powi and his provincial government for funding K3 million in the 2015 budget to help the hospitals,"Mr Awesa said.
"The funding to the hospitals and the health centres and sub-health centres in the province is also timely as the province prepares for the Provincial Health Authority in the New Year."
Mr Awesa said the K300 million redevelopment of the Mendi General hospital to become a major referral hospital in the region would happen in the next five years but the budgetary funding would assist the hospital with the immediate renovation of its infrastructure, including the deteriorating medical equipment.
"Our people need better health services and the Governor’s dream is help improve the facilities," he said.
