FRUSTRATION is mounting among community health workers in Madang Province over the prolonged payment of their industrial awards.
CHW Association Madang Branch president Mark Kudu said this yesterday.
Mr Kudu said from Karkar Island that there was already a plan underway for an industrial action.
He said the award was to be paid and backdated to 2000 when the agreement was signed initially by the national Government and the health workers.
However, he said since the signing of the agreement there were no payments made up until today.
"We were expecting the pay out in pay 26 last year, however, it never happened and were hoping for the first fortnight of 2014 but still nothing has happened,’’ said Mr Kudu.
"Frustrations are mounting among the workers on prolonged delay and are now looking forward for next course of action which is a strike.
"I will be calling a general meeting early February where we will decide for our next course of action.’’
Mr Kudu said several government officers from the human resource department had paid visits to Madang health workers recently, but nothing had eventuated from those visits.
"I am not sure about other centres but we are kept in suspense here in Madang of the delay and disappointed on the manner we are being treated," he said.
Mr Kudu also said there were couple of visits made by officers from the human resource departments but nothing constructive had yet been done.
"We were given assurances from those officers that we would be paid and yet we are still waiting," he said.
