The first “Be a Hero” blood donation drive of the Pacific International Hospital (PIH) for 2018 successfully ended last Wednesday, with the hospital team attracting more than 200 people at the Vision City Mega Mall in Port Moresby.
The team talked about about the advantages of blood donation, answered questions and dispelled myths about blood donation.
Blood donation can help burn calories and even reduce risk of cancer and liver diseases, they said, and a single person’s donation of blood can save the lives of three people.
The blood donation drive was initiated ahead of the visit by an international cardiac surgeon team which performed open heart surgeries on PIH patients.
More than 30 people gave blood at Vision City Mega Mall.
All donors were given refreshments, a certificate of appreciation, a PIH blood donation card and a free T-shirt.
PIH continues to be in need of blood, especially for surgeries and trauma cases.
