As the world observed the WORLD HEART DAY, World Health Organization (WHO) PNG appealed to the general public to know the symptoms of Heart attack and Stroke and seek medical treatment immediately.
WHO revealed the symptoms of heart attack are pain or discomfort in the center of the chest, pain or discomfort in the arms, the left shoulder, jaw or back, shortness of breath, vomiting, breaking into a cold sweat and becoming pale.
Symptoms of Stroke are sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm, leg or most often one side of the body, difficulty in speaking and understanding speech, difficulty in seeing with one or both eyes, difficulty in walking, dizziness, and fainting or unconsciousness.
PNG’s Heart Specialist Professor Isi Kevau recently described Heart attacks and strokes in PNG as “going out of hand” as cases of people having them is increasing tremendously.
Professor Kevau said the only way to address the increasing number of these non communicable diseases is through primary prevention.
