A RAPID diagnostic testing is done for anyone showing symptoms of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) at 28 reporting health facilities in Jiwaka, an official says. Provincial health authority (PHA) chief executive officer Dr Thaddeus Turi Kinah told The National yesterday that they had ensured the Covid-19 pandemic was contained and no cases had been reported while awareness on vaccination and testing was being carried out. “Testing is very important in addressing this pandemic and the PHA ensures that the health workers are well trained and personal protective equipment and testing kits are available at all the health facilities,” he said. “When we increase testing, we will be able to detect more mild cases.” Dr Kinah said they had advised those with mild symptoms to isolate themselves, adhere to the “New Normal” and use home remedies.
“In that way, we are managing the cases and situation well,” he said. “We don’t see a lot of people with the Covid-19 coming to the main Kudjip Nazarene Hospital.” Dr Kinah said so far, 35 people had died from the Covid-19 in the province, but only six were from local transmission while the rest contracted the Covid-19 before entering the province. He said the Covid-19 was regarded as another infection of concern under the PHA system so there was no panic when it came to surges. “As per the statistics coming out from the Covid-19 National Control Centre, Jiwaka is doing fine at third or fourth place in terms of vaccination,” he said. Dr Kinah urged the people to get vaccinated and go for testing. The National / PNG Health Watch Next : AstraZeneca Vaccine Preferred: Manning Comments are closed.
