EXXONMobil, as the operator of LNG project, is concerned about the health of the people, its health manager Andry Nowosiwsky says. Nowosiwsky presented some of the company’s overviews in the community health impact mitigation programme at a health conference in Port Moresby.
“With the community health impact mitigation programme, PNG LNG is partnering with the PNG Institute of Medical Research, Population Service International and local non-government organisations like Salvation Army and Susu Mamas,” Nowosiwsky said.
He said the key results were protecting the health of the PNG LNG workforce and those at project sites, creating a strong and sustainable integrated health and demographic surveillance system.
The scientific health studies carried out relate to the emerging health issues in PNG and building a national infectious disease diagnostic and research laboratory in Port Moresby
“This construction would provide great opportunity to train the upcoming generations of medical
laboratory scientists,” Nowosiwsky said. He said the company would continue working with the health department to enable the translation of knowledge to influence implementation of public health guidelines and policy.
