We are seeking a junior and qualified Food Technologist/Chemist in Lae, PNG.  The role is a member of the Research & Development team.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide technical skills to the site in order to achieve business goals and targets through Research and Development  and New Product Development project activities, as well as assisting day to day quality Control, Food Safety, Occupational Health and Safety and Production and packaging related activities.
The incumbent will be able to conduct lab and pilot plant trials for new product concepts, and then being able to transition the pilot concept to production plant-based trials in conjunction with Production, Engineering and Quality Control Managers and respective supervisors.
The position reports to the Research & Development Coordinator.

Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization, founded in 1971 and working in 70 countries around the world. MSF provides medical assistance to populations in crisis, regardless of race, religion, belief or political affiliation. In PNG, MSF has been working since 2007 in Lae, Tari and Bougainville. MSF is now working in support to the Department of Health to improve access to care for tuberculosis patients in Gulf Province and NCD Province.


JOB PROFILE
Objectives for MSF Intervention in NCD
In 2015, MSF-F has started to work in Gerehu Hospital.
The main objective is to reduce the morbidity, mortality and burden of TB and more specifically:

• To provide support to the facilities in their detection capacities, improving diagnosis for DS and DR-TB cases
• To provide support for better access to the treatment and TB care.
• Reinforce the patients’ follow up (DR-TB and DS-TB), especially strengthening the networking activities with referral laboratories for TB confirmatory tests and side effects blood tests (DR-TB patients especially).
• Actively support data collection and analysis for epidemiology and public health related activities.
• Improve infection control in the health facilities.
• Assist clinical team in proper collection and transport of sputum to the Gerehu TB laboratory and proper storage of samples received.
• Prepare and read sputum smear slides with a turn-around-time (TAT) of 72 hours or 24 hours in case of priority given by medical request
• Perform TB PCR using GeneXpert with a TAT of 72 hours or 24 hours in case of priority given by medical request
• Register and assist in preparing samples for blood tests, culture and DST and ensure the correct packaging and transport.
• Follow all the administrative procedures, registering the patient’s data and his/her tests’ results and keeping them confidential.
• Proper registration of patients’ data, sample collections and results in order to keep a written track of the activity and to ensure proper reporting, ensuring confidentiality at time.
• To produce laboratory analysis of adequate quality
• Participate in any other related activities as requested by the line manager
