Michael Alpers Award for Excellence in Health Research Applications Now Open The Australian High Commission in Papua New Guinea, in partnership with the PNG-Australia Transition to Health (PATH) program, is delighted to announce the Michael Alpers Award for Excellence in Health Research. This prestigious award honours the remarkable legacy of the late Professor Michael Alpers, a distinguished Australian medical researcher and humanitarian whose groundbreaking contributions to infectious disease research, including his work on kuru, have transformed global health. The award supports an outstanding Papua New Guinean graduate student, technical officer, public health policymaker, early-career researcher, or clinician to attend the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) Annual Scientific Meeting 2025 and the associated Study Program from 3–8 April 2025 in Canberra.
The recipient will gain valuable exposure to global health advancements and will be required to submit a report detailing the outcomes of their participation. Applications are now open online.
