An emergency doctor has issued a warning on the complications of lifestyle diseases.

Doctor Isaac Rami, an emergency doctor at the Port Moresby General Hospital said that multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and the complication of life style diseases are on the rise.

“Having worked for almost a decade in the busiest emergency department in the country, what I find baffling is the exponential rise of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis and complication of life style diseases,” explained Dr. Rami at his graduation party on Friday 20th of April, 2018.

“High blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes are among the main culprits dubbed silent killers are on the rise and it is a time bomb, if you like.”

Dr Rami who graduated with a Master of Medicine in Emergency Medicine and a Post Graduate Diploma in Anesthesiology on Friday at the University of Papua New Guinea urged everyone to be less ignorant about these issues in this day and age.

“Ladies and gentlemen, if we were more wise and pragmatic, our health focus would be on health education, routine and periodic medical checks to pick up problems and manage them early,” stressed the doctor.

He said that it is sad and funny that we are in the 21st century and people are blaming each other and end up losing more lives when someone collapses and dies because of heart attack or stroke, again the silent Killers.

“If it was puripuri or black magic, why don’t the first world countries have them?” he questioned. “These are reversible if detected earlier and appropriately treated.”

Meanwhile, he said that living with silent killers also causes long-term irreversible damages to the body’s vital organs hence shortening the life span.

He said that the solution is an enhanced primary health care system whereby the emphasis is on prevention. Post Courier
