THE number of tuberculosis cases in North Fly District in Western, is increasing, a healthcare worker says.
Kiunga Rural Hospital TB coordinator Lewis Mora said more help was needed to help stop the spread.
“TB in Western is increasing rapidly, especially in rural areas,” he said.
He said there was no commitment from the government or logistical support to help health workers carry out awareness and treatment in rural areas.
Mora said many people were suffering because healthcare services were not being delivered to their door steps
He said the latest report from December 2013, to December 2014, had shown that the disease was spreading. He said out of the 733 TB cases detected, one was mona-resistant and seven were multiple drug resistance.
Mora said 1700 cases of extra pulmonary TB cases were reported, while 733 were pulmonary TB cases.
